Roller Compacted Concrete at Port of Houston – Bayport Container Yard VII North
A.G. Peltz Group, LLC placed another 90,000 + cubic yards of 18″ thick RCC at the Port Houston Bayport Facility. The project was placed in two equal 9″ RCC lifts, and production rates routinely exceed 1,200 cubic yards per day.
To meet the demanding requirements of this large-scale initiative, A.G. Peltz Group used two advanced ARAN mixing plants and deployed multiple high-density ABG pavers for precise placement. Pavement lanes were constructed at a consistent width of 25 feet to ensure uniformity and efficiency. Notably, the Port of Houston Authority (POHA) opts to forego sawing and sealing transverse and longitudinal joints, streamlining the construction process. Instead, A.G. Peltz Group used an innovative edging shoe set at approximately 7.5 degrees vertical to pave longitudinal joints, delivering seamless results. The surface texture features a tight, compact finish achieved with a well-graded three-aggregate blend, ensuring durability and long-term performance.
McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. was the general contractor on the project, which was selected as an Award Winner for Paving Excellence in 2022 by the American Concrete Paving Association. Project supplier partners included: Vulcan Materials, Ashgrove Cement, Charah, Fordyce, Alleyton, and TLC Trucking. Beyond Houston, A.G. Peltz Group has established its expertise in RCC paving at other major port facilities, including Norfolk International Terminals (NIT) in Virginia and APM Terminals at Choctaw Point in Mobile, Alabama.
